Reason for joining the directory

I would like to be included in the LGBTQ+ Healthcare Consortium directory because I believe every patient deserves access to healthcare that is respectful, affirming, culturally responsive, and free from judgment. As a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I regularly care for individuals whose mental health is deeply influenced by their experiences of identity, family acceptance, discrimination, trauma, healthcare access, and feeling safe enough to be fully themselves in a clinical setting. My goal is to provide a space where LGBTQ+ patients, including transgender and gender-diverse individuals, can receive evidence-based psychiatric care without having to educate their provider, defend their identity, or worry that their identity will be treated as a pathology. I strive to use each patient's chosen name and pronouns, understand the unique mental-health and healthcare considerations that may affect LGBTQ+ individuals, and collaborate respectfully with primary care, gender-affirming care, therapy, and other community resources when needed. Being included in the Consortium directory would allow individuals and families who are actively seeking affirming mental-health care to more easily identify my practice as a welcoming and supportive resource. I also value being part of a broader network of local healthcare professionals who are committed to improving access, reducing health disparities, and creating safer healthcare experiences for the LGBTQ+ community.
