Reason for joining the directory
Growing up, I had little support both emotionally and in navigating my own identity and sexuality, sparking fear and shame around the topics. As I became older, I continued to have invalidating experiences with medical professionals, which created my drive for providing care in an affirming, not just accepting, space. Additionally, as I was diagnosed late into neurodiversity, continuing to uphold space for intersectionality and exploration with clients alongside them with relatable experiences became a mission.

No, but health care is a huge focus for me, especially in the Grand Rapids community/West side of Michigan, which has significantly less resources for those in the LGBTQIA+ community. As a professional in the behavioral health sector, easing social conditions that contribute to mental health concerns is an ethical responsibility to my practice. Those in the LGBTQIA+ community face significantly more hardship, stereotyping, prejudice, and systematically suffer from being minority status. Focusing on correcting these social pressures helps clients to 1) know I am on their side and fighting with them and 2) actively pursue justice for aspects of their lives that worsen their mental health condition.
