As a queer, AuDHD health coach with nearly a decade of experience in public health, I have seen firsthand how mainstream healthcare and wellness systems systematically alienate, pathologize, and fail the LGBTQIA2S+ and neurodivergent communities. Traditional wellness spaces are often deeply rooted in high-pressure, rigid, and exclusionary frameworks that ignore intersectional trauma and lived experiences. I founded Heartwood Wellness Co. right here in Grand Rapids to serve as a gentle, zero-pressure alternative. My client-centered practice completely rejects restrictive, "all-or-nothing" diet and fitness culture, focusing instead on trauma-informed care, nervous system regulation, and building self-efficacy through realistic, dopamine-friendly lifestyle shifts. I want to be added to the Consortium’s provider list because I want local LGBTQIA2S+ individuals to know they don't have to mask, defend their identities, or decode mainstream health advice when seeking wellness support. Being part of the Consortium allows me to formalize my commitment to health equity in West Michigan, collaborate with a trusted network of inclusive providers, and offer a landing pad for community members looking to safely exit survival mode and reclaim their well-being on their own terms.
